Record and import audio

Record a full lecture or episode from the selected app, or import MP3, M4A, WAV and AIFF files from your Mac or over Wi-Fi.

Record from the selected app

  1. Choose a source and start playing audio in it.
  2. In Capture, click Record. Use Pause Recording and Resume Recording as needed.
  3. Click Stop Recording. The recording appears in All Audio.

⌥S keeps working while you record, so you can save single sentences at the same time.

If your Mac goes to sleep, the source app quits or LingoClipper stops during a recording, the audio recorded so far is kept. When you see A recording was interrupted., open All Audio and, under Needs Attention, choose Recover to save it or Discard to delete it.

Import an audio file

  1. Click Import Audio, then Choose from Local Files.
  2. Choose an MP3, M4A, WAV or AIFF file.

LingoClipper copies the audio into its library and leaves your original file unchanged. The audio goes into the folder you are viewing in All Audio, or into Unfiled.

Import over Wi-Fi

Send audio from your phone or another computer on the same network.

  1. Click Import Audio, then Import over Wi-Fi. LingoClipper shows a local address that starts with http://.
  2. Open that address in a browser on the other device. Copy Address helps if you want to send it to yourself.
  3. Choose one or more audio files. They import automatically into the folder shown in the window.
  4. Keep the window open and LingoClipper in front until the browser shows that the upload is complete.

Each file can be up to 2 GB. Closing the window stops the receiver.

There is no pairing code. While the window is open, anyone on the same network who knows the address can send files to it. Transfers use plain HTTP and are not encrypted, so use this only on a network you trust, such as your home Wi-Fi. Files go straight to your Mac and are not stored in the cloud.

If an import is interrupted

Interrupted imports appear under Imports Needing Attention. Choose Retry to continue, Choose File Again if the copy did not finish, or Discard to remove the import. Your original file is never changed.

Organize recordings

  • Create folders in the sidebar and move recordings into them. All Audio and Unfiled show the newest first; your own folders keep the order you arrange.
  • Play All plays every recording in a folder. Turn on Segments Only to hear only the parts you have segmented.
  • Deleting a recording removes its audio and segments from this Mac. Clips you already saved from it stay in your Library.
